Technical studies

The Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) administers the generator interconnection process for proposed connections to the Otter Tail Power Company (OTP) transmission system. The Big Stone II participants submitted a request to MISO for a new 600 MW generator (Big Stone II) in early February of 2004, which MISO named project G392. MISO hired OTP Delivery Planning as a consultant to perform a generator interconnection study to determine the transmission expansion necessary for reliably connecting Big Stone II to the transmission grid.

The studies that have been completed for evaluation of the Big Stone II interconnection have been divided into two separate reports. One report contains the results obtained from the steady state contingency analysis for summer peak and summer off-peak conditions. The other report contains the results from the transient stability and short circuit analysis. You can view these reports found on the MISO web site. They include the technical results from the study work and identify any issues that arise from the interconnection of the Big Stone II generator to the transmission system.
